Misunderstanding of Laptops Batteries Maintainance

Welcome to a Laptop Battery specialist
of the Sony laptop battery   First post by: www.itsbattery.com

Misunderstanding: When the laptop battery is damaged, the cells can be changed by oneself.

If you are not familiar with the battery structures, the operation will cause severe damage and even death. It seems to have been expected by the manufacturers that many laptop batteries are designed with the blocking system. Once the cells are removed from the control circuit, it comes into the blocking state. The circuit doesn't work until a special means conducted.

Different from the dry batteries such as Sony PCGA-BP1N battery, Sony PCGA-BP2NX battery, Sony PCGA-BP2NY battery, Sony PCGA-BP2R battery, Sony PCGA-BP2S battery, Sony PCGA-BP2T battery, Sony PCGA-BP2V battery, Sony PCGA-BP4V battery, Sony PCGA-BP71 battery, the li-ion battery cells cannot be changed as one wishes, which will make the battery out of service. If you really want to change them, you'd better go for a professional company to repair. Otherwise, you'll be disappointed by the results.

Misunderstanding: Laptop battery should be activated once a month by deep discharging.

The cycle is good to the Ni-mh batteries while it is unnecessary to the li-ion ones. For the li-ion batteries, it is too often. Although the memory effect hasn't been eliminated completely, there's still a little exists. If the battery is used frequently, you'd better discharge it to about 10% to 15% while the capacity of less than 1% is harmful. Generally speaking, it is best to activate it every two months. If used rarely, only every three months is enough.

Misunderstanding: Laptop battery should be stored before fully charged or discharged.

As a matter of fact, neither of the points is correct. As to fully discharging, it will cause the battery cells lack of activity or even self-lock. Then the battery may be out of work. As to fully charging, it will also damage the battery while the most proper remaining is about 40%. Even the intelligent sony vaio laptop battery will be damaged when unused for long periods with a full capacity.

Furthermore, li-ion batteries are scared about dampness and high temperature. The batteries should be stored in a cool and dry condition. Too high or too low temperature will reduce the capacity rapidly while the proper temperature is approximately 70℉.
